Prestwick Country Club is truly a hidden gem for golf in the Myrtle Beach area, located just off Rte. 544 in Myrtle Beach proper. Designed by the father and son team of Pete and P.B. Dye, it is one of the most dynamic layouts on the entire Grand Strand, boasting both a loyal membership base that lives nearby and thousands of annual vacation golfers who always include a round at Prestwick on their trip itineraries.

At just under 7,100 yards from the back tees, Prestwick is of middling length on the spectrum of Myrtle Beach area golf courses. As such, it provides an excellent mix of holes that seize the player’s attention and keep it until the round is through.

The holes nearest the clubhouse seem to be the best on both sides of the course. The long par three 8th can play as long as 245 yards from the back tee, to a large, undulating green protected by the Dye family’s trademark flat-bottomed, steep-faced bunkers. The green is so wide that a right-to-left tee shot might be called for one day and the next, a left-to-right shot.

The aforementioned clubhouse overlooks the ninth and 18th holes, which curl around either side of a lake. The ninth is a reachable par five with the lake, lined with railroad ties, all down the left, while the 18th, with a somewhat wider fairway, veers to the right on the other side, with creative grass hollows and a volcano-style bunker lying to the left of the putting surface. No matter whether one has begun the round on the first of 10th hole, the finish is sure to be a memorable one.
