Barefoot - Norman
4980 Barefoot Resort Bridge Road, North Myrtle Beach, SC, 29582The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort, located in North Myrtle Beach, was designed by Greg Norman who parlayed his success on the golf course into a multinational business empire off of it, including a huge apparel company, numerous golf schools that bear his name and an internationally acclaimed golf course design firm.
His golf course at Barefoot Resort opened in 2000 and has been a favorite among visitors and locals ever since. It is unusual in that there is virtually no long rough on the course. Instead, sandy waste areas guard fairways and greens, as do sod-faced bunkers and judiciously placed water hazards. The course also has the distinction of beoing the only one of Barefoot’s four to visit the banks of the impressive Intracoastal Waterway, which it does on five occasions.
The best of these is the long par three 10th hole, whose narrow green is more than forty paces from front to back and is protected by the Waterway along the entire right side. The downhill nature of the tee shot makes the target look even more imposing, as do the four bunkers placed to the left and rear. There is room to bail out in spite of this, but the player must know exactly how far to hit it in order to take advantage of that extra width to the left.
