Leopards Chase

Convenient to the Grand Strand’s other golf courses and numerous attractions, Leopard’s Chase Golf Links was designed by popular golf course architect Tim Cate and opened in 2007. When it opened, both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine named the course one of the “Top 10 New Public Courses in America.”

The course is expertly maintained, from large, undulating L-93 bentgrass putting surfaces to TifSport Bermuda fairways and all bright bunkers and shimmering ponds along the way. Cate employed plenty of width over the 18 holes at Leopard’s Chase, ensuring that casual and serious golfers alike will enjoy one of the five sets of tees on offer. For those seeking a challenge, the course’s 7,155 yard back Black tees carry Rating and Slope figures of 74.3 and 140. Cate let the land, rather than convention dictate the sequencing of holes, and the result is a front nine with three par threes followed by a back nine with three par fives. The best of these is the dramatic 14th, which measures 543 yards from the tips, bringing it within reach in two for longer hitters. In order to do this, though, a long and straight tee shot must be followed by a heroic fairway wood over the corner of a chasm that protects the entire left side of the hole. Such elevation change is a pleasant surprise in an area known for the relative flatness of its land.

Leopard’s Chase Golf Links sports a solid rating of 7.7 from Myrtle Beach Golf Insider’s player reviews system. Recent golfers have pointed to the golf course’s conditioning and its picturesque setting as particular strengths.
