Indigo Creek Golf Club opened in 1990, located just minutes south of Myrtle Beach in Garden City, S.C. Quite convenient to MYR Airport and one of the better-value golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area, it is an ideal place for a round either just after one’s plane lands or the morning before departure.

Willard Byrd designed Indigo Creek to blend classic design principles with modern sensibilities and a sense of stout challenge. And the course delivers—it measures 6,747 yards from the farthest-back tees with a rating of 72.9 and a slope of 140, making it an excellent challenge for players of all abilities.

A great deal of that challenge comes in the form of four stout par threes that measure, respectively and from the back tees, 190, 200, 198 and 180 yards. The most notable of these is the 198-yard 11th, whose small green is guarded in front by a lake and on the left by a huge bunker. The shot from the tee is one that would raise the blood pressure of even the most accomplished long-iron player.

Of the 14 par fours and fives on the golf course, six feature a somewhat significant dogleg, meaning that the player who can shape the ball both ways with confidence off the tee will have a distinct advantage. At holes like the par four tenth hole, this ability will constitute the difference between an ideal tee shot and one that runs through the fairway into trouble—in the case of number ten, that trouble comes in the form of a pond.
