Crown Park
2225 Highway 9 West, Longs, SC, 29568Crown Park Golf Club enjoys a reputation as a great place to start a Myrtle Beach golf trip. Meandering through a peaceful setting with no homes along its path, Crown Park offers smooth, quick TifEagle Bermuda putting surfaces and generous landing areas at distances (6,477 yards from the back tees) most players can handle without a strain. Adding to the comfort of playing the Longs, S.C., course is GPS-based yardage information.
Robbie Byers designed the course, which opened off S.C. 9 in 2001. Still challenging for low handicappers with a 71.3 rating and 128 slope from the back tees, Crown Park gives players opportunities for birdies and eagles. The second set of tees play to barely 6,000 yards with the other two sets measuring cozy distances of 5,542 and 4,597 yards. The par-5s are particularly inviting, especially Nos. 6 and 11, which each measure less than 500 yards.
Though all of the par-5s aren’t overpowering, at least one par-3 is. No. 4 stretches out to 223-yards with a large, two-tiered green that allows for several distinctive pin placements. Perhaps best remembered is No. 18, a 174-yard par-3 over water to a “punch bowl”-shaped green that funnels shots toward the cup.
