Beachwood1520 Hwy 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, SC, 29582
Beachwood Golf Club, located in North Myrtle Beach, recently earned a ranking of 7.8 from player/reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insider, earning special recognition for the quality of its staff and course conditions.
Opened in 1968 and designed by Gene Hamm, Beachwood has long been one of the best-value courses at the beach. Located in the middle of high-energy North Myrtle Beach, it is one of relatively few area golf courses unencumbered by housing in between any of its 18 holes. The course measures 6,844 yards from the longest of its four sets of tees, a par 72 with the standard configuration of five par fours, two par threes and two par fives on each side. The par fours on the course vary wider than do those of most golf courses, with the 327-yard seventh following the 425-yard sixth.
The golf course weaves all over a gently rolling piece of property, with doglegs running in both directions complementing more straightaway holes. The course builds to a dramatic finish, beginning with the 512-yard par five 17th. It is a pronounced dogleg right where the aggressive golfer can try and cut the corner and have a shorter—potentially as little as a middle iron—approach shot. That approach shot is played downhill to a green guarded by three bunkers. After making, hopefully, a birdie on the penultimate hole, the 239-yard par three 18th remains. As if its imposing length weren’t enough, the green is protected by a quartet of bunkers left and right. Only the straightest long iron or fairway wood shot of the day will find the putting surface.
Beachwood sports a clubhouse with a full pro shop and snack bar as well as a lighted driving range, putting green, chipping green and practice bunker.
