The acclaimed King’s North course at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club is centrally located, just off Rt. 501 in Myrtle Beach. The centerpiece of a 54-hole facility, King’s North is one of the Grand Strand’s most recognizable and popular places to tee it up. Originally opened in the 1970s, the golf course underwent a complete renovation in 1996 helmed by Arnold Palmer, who lends his nickname to the course.

King’s North’s 18 holes are an intriguing reflection of the feeling of spending time in Myrtle Beach. The course, like the area that surrounds it, does not take itself too seriously and provides plenty of opportunity for fun and challenge. Take for example the sixth hole, the par five “Gambler” hole. An island fairway sits above the surface of a lake that guards the entire left side of the hole. A drive that lands on the island leaves as little as a mid-iron to the green, where awaits the real possibility of a birdie or even an eagle, if that second shot clears the remainder of the aforementioned lake.

Palmer maintains the sense of whimsy throughout the rest of the round, with the island-green par three 12th hole being guarded not just by water but by bunkers shaped, respectively, like an S and a C. Then, at the 18th, Palmer leaves the player with a mix of fun and challenging golf, scattering more than 30 bunkers around the perimeter of the 460-yard par four, known as “Bullseye.”

Meadowlands Golf Club recently garnered a stellar rating of 8.8 from Myrtle Beach Golf Insider’s player reviews system. Recent golfers have pointed to the golf course’s layout and conditioning as particular strengths.
